柱状改良工法はソイルセメントコラム工法とも呼ばれ、従前から建築・土木において地盤改良として広く採用されている工法です。
地盤条件に応じた設計の幅の広さから、現在でも小規模建築物の地盤補強として最もよく利用されています。

柱状改良工法は、セメント系固化材に水を加えてスラリー状にしたもの(セメントミルク)を、撹拌翼の先端から地盤に注入しながら撹拌し、円柱状(直径60cm程度)の改良体を作ります。
改良体の先端支持力と周面で得られる周面摩擦力によって建築物を支えます。
